Sutton’s is a nod to the past industrial might of Kensington and the hardworking people that have always lived here. The Sutton family, who came to Philadelphia from England in the late 1700’s as shipbuilders, eventually opened the successful foundry and iron works known as Franklin Iron Works. Inspired by the story of a hardworking family that became an integral part of the neighborhood, owner Niall Murphy created Sutton’s; a space that embraces the people and roots of the 5th Street corridor that once housed the workings of breweries, textile, woolen, lamp and hat factories; A space where people come together and enjoy homemade food and a good drink with their friends and neighbors.
“I’ve always wanted to create a space where people can feel welcome, have a great meal with good beer; a comfortable, warm, friendly place that we would want to hang out in ourselves.”
NIALL MURPHY, CO-FOUNDER
“I LOVE this place. I would give it 10 stars if I could! The food is always delicious and fresh, and the drinks and beer selection are great. If you like brunch, I can't recommend the fresh pastry flight enough. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the vibe in general is perfect. The artwork/artifacts around the bar are super cool, too -- very interesting, very historical, very Philly. It's our go-to place. A perfect fit for the neighborhood!”
“Sutton's has become our local watering hole. The food is unbelievable and the atmosphere is great. The staff are welcoming and attentive. They have excellent beer and will turn the volume up for any Philadelphia sports event. Check this place out!!”
Every Tuesday from 4pm-7pm, Sutton’s is hosting “Souper Tuesday”, an initiative offering free soup for pick up to any community member in need of a meal. We are accepting donations for each week’s soup funds, and all remaining proceeds will go towards a new charity each week. Sutton’s has already donated over $5,000 to charity and distributed over 1,000 soup meals.
